What is Javastop all about? That question has a simple answer for us. It's a meeting place for people of all kinds. We have found that many coffeeshops are very modern and minimalist. That works for most on the go people, but we are the opposite. We try to ensure that our shop is cozy, inviting, and as one customer put it ,`It feels like I am hanging out with you guys in your living room at home!" We were lucky enough to be able to purchase the oldest cafe in Longmont, so it already had a rich history and some very loyal regular customers. Almost everyone who walks through the door is on a first name basis with us, and many of the other regulars they run into there. It is a weekly occurrence to have someone drop off a free stack of books to give away, a houseplant in need of a windowsill, a daughters grad photo to be displayed with pride, sometimes we even get baked goods brought to us. We are constantly blown away by the love that is in the Javastop community. It was here long before we were, and we recognize the honor we have to keep it going, Just last week we received an e-mail from someone who shared some photos of the shop from a decade ago. We were able to name everyone in the pictures, and pass them on to them as well. Such rich history should be preserved, so a meeting place like javastop must remain.
We do get asked by people how we ended up owning the legacy coffeeshop. Honestly, we consider it a stroke of luck. We were mid first year of the pandemic, and Kurt was out of work because of it. His mother went into Javastop for a coffee, and while she was there the barista told her it was their last day open. The buyer they had lined up fell through, and with COVID going on they just couldn't stay open. Kurt's mother called us from her car and told us the news. We decided that day to call the broker and see if we could make a go of it. The sale went through June of 2020 and we jumped right in. It was a tough time to go into business, and one that needed so much work especially. However, with that dedicated base of regular customers supporting us in every way they could, we have made it to today. We are still taking it week by week as COVID is still a concern, but we have been able to see some growth and worked hard to draw attention to this amazing old shop.
Kurt has a background in food, and now that business has increased a bit we were able to add a few items to the menu this year, 2022. The most exciting item in our opinion is the homemade soup, which rotates depending on what fresh ingredients we can get our hands on. We bake all the pastries in-shop, except the gluten free options that we get from the GF bakery a couple doors down from us, Aimees Love Bakery. We were able to find two amazing ladies here in town who make their own fresh breads and now use their marble rye and sourdough for sandwiches. We have been very happy to find a local source for just about everything in the shop from our coffee roaster, to kombucha, to our business cards, to the art on the walls. Longmont really has everything you could want. The downtown community has been especially inviting and an absolute delight to be a part of. We are excited to continue and see what else gets thrown our way, and how many more people we meet.
