On a cross-country road trip in 1997, my boyfriend asked me, “If you could open any business, what would it be?” I replied without hesitation, “A pottery studio.” “What would you call it?” he asked.
“Crackpots,” rolled off my tongue as though it was meant to be. From that point on, we would talk about Crackpots as though it existed, planning what kind of chairs would look cool, what lighting would work best … never really thinking that this was more than a dream.
Little did I know that this boyfriend would later become my husband, and that we would find ourselves in Longmont, Colorado in 1999, far from both of our hometowns. Our dream of a pottery studio instantly bubbled to the top of our consciousness as soon as we saw the historic downtown.
This was the place! I quit my job (and fainted in front of my boss in the process) and took a leap of faith that the people of Longmont wanted a fun place to hang out and create as much as I did. The dream came to life on the corner of 5th and Main in April of 2001.
Fast forward: 20 Years has gone by in a flash, but when we look back we realize how many friends we have made, how proud we are to be a part of this community, and how much fun we have had! We look forward to many, many more creative adventures.
Crackpots is open 7 days a week and we welcome walk-ins all the time. We offer private party rooms for gatherings for everything from office team building to little Susie's birthday party.
